The ongoing free 24/7 support from Rachel is a fantastic benefit to both new and experienced ceramic businesses. As someone who is setting up a mobile studio whilst still working, the regular group contact via WhatsApp, keeps me motivated and fuels my enthusiasm. Technical issues are always being queried (using photographic evidence of the issue) and Rachel is quick to respond. In addition new project ideas, future course and workshop information is shared as well as success stories.
My daughter booked for her and I to come one afternoon for 2 hrs of fun. We LOVED it! A couple were in finishing off their accomplishments (for her 40th), a party were booked in for the weekend (there’s a flat you can book too!)- for someone’s 50th, -Rachel has had every event, and even a 90 yr old. Rachel is incredibly skilled and talented- she is a wonderful teacher. Katie and I made wide dishes, each being given the tricks of the trade and so much help as required, then the crowning glory was to use paints and streak them up the sides whilst on the spinner! Hilarious. I can only say you will have such a whale of a time, lots of fun and have something to show for your efforts- I can’t wait to return to collect after it’s been in the kiln!
I’m from Northern Ireland and I travelled over to train with Rachel. She is absolutely a brilliant teacher. If I need help she is only a text or phone call away. Only down side is I don’t live near her😭can’t recommend her enough.
As dramatic as it may sound, it’s non-the-less completely accurate to say that Rachel has changed my life. Whilst always having a leaning towards the artistic, running my own business had always felt like something unattainable for me. Rachel’s training however has made the seemingly unattainable a reality. With a straight forward and patient approach, she has given me the confidence to resign from my job of 11 years and start up my own Paint-A-Pot business. Rachel has consistently been helpful and supportive whenever I have needed her help or advice and I would recommend anyone thinking of training with her to go for it. The dream of my own little shop has become a reality – I still have to pinch myself some days! Rachel Byass is a very safe pair of hands.
I made a decision to start a small “mobile” paint-your-own-pottery business here in Switzerland and I was looking for someone who could train me up in all the aspects of running the business, as well as techniques. I shopped around and chose Rachel because she could offer one-to-one training around my schedule. In fact she even changed another class to fit me in for training on a Sunday. I thoroughly enjoyed the training and feel I learnt a lot – from glazing to firing, pricing to techniques, Rachel has a “can do” attitude that of course you can do it, with a little practice! Her no-nonsense approach is refreshing and I have bought her one year support package and it has already been useful as Rachel is so responsive. I would very much recommend Rachel as a knowledgeable teacher and I will go to as many courses as my budget will allow for in the future! If you are looking to start something, then Rachel is your girl!
Thank you so much for a wonderful training experience. You are a wonderful teacher and your enthusiasm and passion for your craft are a abundant. I feel privileged to have trained with someone who has so much experience and knowledge. There is still much to learn so I am sure to be back for more workshops in the future. I leave with my mind buzzing with ideas itching to put what I have learnt into practice and I have more confidence in my ability to be successful.
I spent 3 fantastic days in the studio learning all about clay, pottery and painting techniques. Rachel is a brilliant teacher who has inspired me to go back to my home in South West Scotland and build my own little ceramic studio. Thank you so much!
As a total pottery beginner travelling down from Scotland for a 3 day course I was quite apprehensive. I shouldn’t have worried Rachel was so friendly and made me instantly at ease. I learned so much in the 3 days and feel really excited about starting my own business. And I know if I have any problem Rachel will be on hand for advice and help. I would recommend the course to anyone.
Starting a new venture can be a scary prospect and I was a little apprehensive about everything when I signed up to attend Rachel’s course on starting a pottery painting business. This apprehension was swiftly put to rest within minutes of meeting her and being in the surroundings of her lovely workshop. What an inspiring place and truly lovely lady! I was made to feel completely at ease and her relaxed approach makes learning this trade a real pleasure. . . and believe me there is a LOT to learn, but Rachel has an informal yet comprehensive approach that creates a comfortable learning environment. Everything was covered in a way that I could understand as I had no experience in pottery painting and firing before. What makes a course with Rachel extra special (and in my opinion superb value) is the fact that you are learning one-to-one with someone who know’s this trade inside out and has over 32 years’ experience. Not only that, but rather than just receive instruction on painting techniques, Rachel then went on to look at my own mixed-media artwork and advise how my own style could be applied to the pottery. A truly personalised service!
I left Pontefract full of enthusiasm. Rachel had been on hand ever since for the many (many, many, many) questions and queries that have arisen as I’ve continued setting up my venture. Within a few days after our time together, I’ve had my first party booked, and two full Christmas workshops!
I recommend Rachel Byass’s courses whole-heartedly . . . and just for the record, she does pretty awesome home-made biscuits too!
When I contacted Rachel for a one on one full days training I was a little worried at how inexperienced she may have thought I was, as I had set up my pottery painting café with basic training over 3 years ago but she made me feel at ease and we went through different techniques and methods at a good pace.
She was re-assuring and taught me how to achieve great looking pottery in very simple steps. Creative designs can be done with a number of different tools and can be rewarding when you complete your piece. I have to master the different brush strokes but with Rachel’s’ beautiful brush set that I bought I can’t wait to practise.
Rachel held a fantastic afternoon for the young people at Star bereavement service at Crofton Young Person centre in August, the young people really enjoyed creating their pottery and spending time with the staff at Star. They look forward to receiving their pottery in due course.
Just wanted to say thank you again for the brushes, paints etc and the help and support you’ve shown Kent Deaf Children’s Society. The team and I were able to host an amazing pottery stall, with quality products for those taking part to use and then take home.I’ve begun a feed to float around Twitter. I will also be revisiting your shop in the future, I am sure!
The Chromacolour paints are fantastic and we learnt very quickly that only a tiny dot goes a very long way! Wonderful colours within the sets, the children were delighted to be able to choose from such a variety!
Rachel is extremely professional and the training given was excellent, I left after two days feeling confident with not only the business side but also all the painting technics on the pottery. I can’t recommend Rachel enough, I will be hopefully booking more training with her in the future. Also the aftercare Rachel gives is faultless, I can call or email for advise and she’s always happy to assist. p.s Make sure you try her homemade soup it’s amazing!!!!
